Duke’s Cooper Flagg Ruled Out After Ankle Injury
Duke freshman standout Cooper Flagg suffered a left ankle injury late in the first half and had to be helped off the court during the No. 1 Blue Devils’ ACC Tournament matchup against Georgia Tech on Thursday. The team later announced that Flagg would not return to the game.
At halftime, Cooper Flagg was taken to the X-ray room in a wheelchair for further evaluation. However, he later walked back to the bench under his own power early in the second half. Despite this, Duke confirmed that he would not return to play.
How Cooper Flagg Got Injured

The injury occurred when Cooper Flagg jumped for an uncontested rebound but landed awkwardly, seemingly stepping on the foot of Georgia Tech’s Darrion Sutton. Duke was trailing 26-17 at the time of the incident.
Visibly in pain, Flagg limped to the bench, where he leaned forward in frustration and pounded a chair with his fist. After sitting briefly, he was assisted to the locker room by two teammates for further evaluation.

The Blue Devils also lost Maliq Brown in the first half due to a shoulder injury. The team later confirmed that Brown would not return to the game, adding to Duke’s injury concerns.
Duke’s NCAA Tournament Outlook
Heading into the ACC Tournament, Duke was projected as the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament after recently securing the top spot in the rankings. The team entered the tournament on an eight-game winning streak.
Throughout the regular season, Cooper Flagg played a crucial role for the Blue Devils, averaging 19.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game, leading Duke to an impressive 28-3 record.
The severity of Cooper Flagg’s injury will be closely monitored as Duke prepares for the NCAA Tournament.
