PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed Mason Rudolph to a two-year contract, bringing back their former third-round draft pick after a season with the Tennessee Titans. This move strengthens Pittsburgh’s quarterback depth while they continue exploring options, including awaiting a potential decision from Aaron Rodgers.
Rudolph will join recently signed quarterback Skylar Thompson, giving the Steelers an experienced presence in the quarterback room.

Steelers’ Quarterback Situation in Flux
Last season, the Steelers had Justin Fields and Russell Wilson as their primary starters. Fields recently secured a two-year deal with the New York Jets, while Wilson is meeting with both the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants this week, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Reports indicate that Pittsburgh had been in discussions with Rudolph before Fields finalized his move to New York.
Rudolph’s History with Pittsburgh
Rudolph previously stepped up as the Steelers’ starter in 2023, leading the team to a 3-0 finish and a playoff appearance. His ability to take over in difficult situations isn’t new—he also shared starting duties in 2019 with Devlin “Duck” Hodges after an injury to Ben Roethlisberger.
At 29 years old, Rudolph has an 8-4-1 record in his Steelers career. In 2024, he played for the Titans, stepping in as a starter for an injured Will Levis but finishing with a 1-4 record in five starts.
Rudolph’s Career and Stats
Rudolph originally joined the Titans on a one-year deal last offseason, providing veteran support behind Levis. Competing with Malik Willis in training camp, he secured the backup role and saw action in eight games during the season.
His 2024 season stats include 1,530 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and nine interceptions, with a 63.7% completion rate.
Originally selected 76th overall by Pittsburgh in the 2018 NFL Draft, Rudolph has accumulated 4,615 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions in his career.
The NFL Network first reported Rudolph’s agreement with the Steelers.
