iPhone 17 Pro Launching in 2025: Aluminium Build, A19 Pro Chip, and Enhanced Camera Features
As anticipation builds for Apple’s 2025 flagship model, the iPhone 17 Pro is already generating significant buzz. With the iPhone 16 series still dominating sales, speculation about what the next generation will bring is heating up. The iPhone 17 Pro is rumored to feature major design overhauls, a performance boost, and cutting-edge camera upgrades.
Aluminium Frame Return:
After debuting titanium in the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max in 2023, Apple seems ready to return to an aluminium frame for the iPhone 17 Pro. Analysts, including Jeff Pu and Ming-Chi Kuo, have reported that Apple is opting for a combination of aluminium and glass in the new design, replacing the all-glass back seen in previous models. This change is said to align with Apple’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030, as aluminium has a lower carbon footprint than titanium.
The iPhone 17 Pro is also expected to showcase a dual-tone design, with a darker camera island to contrast with the rest of the device. The camera island is anticipated to be noticeably larger than its predecessor, signaling significant upgrades in the camera department.
Slightly Thicker Body for Bigger Battery:
The iPhone 17 Pro may come with a slightly thicker body compared to the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Rumors suggest that the device could be around 8.725mm thick, up from the 8.25mm of the previous generation. While this change may seem small, it would likely allow Apple to include a larger battery, enhancing overall performance and battery life.
Camera System Overhaul:
One of the most exciting rumored features of the iPhone 17 Pro is a complete redesign of the camera system. It is expected to feature a significantly larger camera island that spans the width of the phone, housing three cameras on the left side. On the right side, the setup may include an LED flash, LiDAR scanner, and a microphone.
Apple is said to be upgrading the lenses on the iPhone 17 Pro to offer professional-grade photo and video capabilities. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has reported that the device could provide video recording quality that rivals traditional cameras, making it an ideal choice for videographers and content creators looking to move away from large, bulky camera equipment.
In terms of specifications, the iPhone 17 Pro is rumored to include a 48-megapixel telephoto lens, a major upgrade from the current 12-megapixel sensor. Additionally, all iPhone 17 models are expected to feature a 24-megapixel selfie camera for sharper and more detailed selfies.
A19 Pro Chip and 12GB RAM for Powerhouse Performance:
Internally, the iPhone 17 Pro is expected to be powered by the A19 Pro chip, built using TSMC’s cutting-edge 3nm process. This chip is anticipated to deliver outstanding performance while also being more power-efficient, leading to faster app launches, smoother multitasking, and improved gaming performance.
Alongside the new chip, the iPhone 17 Pro is rumored to come with 12GB of RAM, a significant upgrade over the 8GB found in the current Pro models. This increase in memory will allow the device to handle demanding tasks and applications with greater ease.
Connectivity: Apple’s Push Toward Independence from Qualcomm:
Apple has been working on reducing its reliance on Qualcomm for cellular modems, and the iPhone 17 Pro could be a milestone in that direction. The iPhone 16e introduced Apple’s proprietary C1 modem, but it currently lacks support for mmWave 5G. Ming-Chi Kuo has reported that Apple is developing an upgraded version of the C1 modem, which will likely include mmWave support and offer better power efficiency. However, this modem may not be ready in time for the iPhone 17 Pro, meaning Apple could continue using Qualcomm modems to ensure reliable 5G performance for the 2025 flagship.
iPhone 17 Series Release Date and Pricing:
As usual, Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 series in September 2025, sticking to its traditional fall release schedule. In terms of pricing, Apple has kept its pricing structure consistent in recent years, despite the introduction of new features and improvements. The iPhone 17 is anticipated to start at around Rs 79,000, while the iPhone 17 Pro could be priced at Rs 1,20,000.
Additionally, Apple may discontinue the iPhone 17 Plus and introduce a new iPhone 17 Air instead. This new model is expected to have a thinner form factor, and although its pricing is still unclear, it could start around Rs 89,900, similar to the base price of the iPhone 16 Plus.
